Strategic AI Collaboration
Investing.com — AstraZeneca (NYSE:AZN) announced Tuesday a new collaboration with Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) aimed at modernizing clinical research processes through artificial intelligence.
The British pharmaceutical group stated that Oracle will provide its AI capabilities alongside cloud computing and data management tools as part of the arrangement.
Focus on Clinical Workflows, Not Drug Target Discovery
According to AstraZeneca, the initiative is structured around using AI to better connect scientific research with day-to-day clinical workflows. The emphasis is on operational improvements in how research is conducted rather than on identifying new drug targets.
The companies said they intend to test real-world uses of this technology in several areas, including the recruitment of patients for clinical trials, earlier identification of disease, and oversight of drug safety.
Initial Hypertension Program in Abu Dhabi
The first program under this alliance is set to concentrate on hypertension management and related clinical research in Abu Dhabi. AstraZeneca noted that this effort will be carried out in collaboration with healthcare company M42.
Planned Global Rollout and Therapeutic Scope
AstraZeneca said the broader collaboration will extend to multiple international projects across the United States, the Middle East, and Europe.
The agreement spans AstraZeneca’s core therapeutic franchises, which the company listed as:
| Therapeutic Area | Scope within Partnership |
|---|---|
| Cancer | Oncology-focused clinical research processes |
| Cardiovascular, Kidney and Metabolic Conditions | Cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic disease studies and care pathways |
| Respiratory and Immunology Disorders | Clinical workflows related to respiratory and immune-mediated diseases |
| Rare Diseases | Research and clinical management in less prevalent conditions |
