IBM Corp.’s share price up, agrees to work in partnership with Shanghai Airport Authority to build a software system

International Business Machines Corp. made an official statement revealing that it reached an agreement to work in collaboration with the Shanghai Airport Authority. The alliance is expected to build a software system to assist it manage the Hongqiao International Airport.

The company said in its statement that its cloud computing work in partnership with Shanghai Airport Authority proves International Business Machines Corp. is a “trusted partner” in China, despite the fact cybersecurity is an aspect that led to increased scrutiny over its server hardware in the country.

The Vice President of the software group of International Business Machines Corp. in China – Mr. Ernie Hu said in the companys statement, which was cited by Bloomberg: “We are proud to be selected by Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport as its trusted partner. IBM has a long history of innovation in transportation, working with the world’s leading airlines and airports.”

The company also revealed on Thursday that the partnership project is expected to help the airport anticipate flight arrivals. The system will basically help the airport manage every activity from airplane taxi times to passengers waiting on a concourse. According to the statement of International Business Machines Corp., the first phase of the process was finalized in March 2014 and has already proved beneficial as it helped Hongqiao International reduce delays.

The company explained last month that it wasnt informed of any government policy against use of its servers. International Business Machines Corp.s spokesman Mr. Anthony Guerrieri explained that the announcement made today is not associated to any reviews made by the Chinese authorities.

International Business Machines Corp. said that the system it provided the Shanghai Airport Authority with, features the DB2 data server and the Tivoli Directory Server and Security Identity Manager, which are also produced by the company. The company, however, did not provide any of the financial terms of the deal.

International Business Machines Corp. was 0.08% up to close at 184.51 dollars per share yesterday, marking a one-year change of -10.51%. According to the information published on CNN Money, the 22 analysts offering 12-month price forecasts for International Business Machines Corp. have a median target of 195.00, with a high estimate of 225.00 and a low estimate of 160.00. The median estimate represents a +5.69% increase from the last price of 184.51.
