Technical Setup: Rising Wedge Signals Risk to Uptrend
EUR/JPY extended its recent gains into a fourth consecutive session, hovering around 184.80 during Asian trading on Tuesday. Analysis of the daily chart shows the pair moving within a rising wedge formation, a pattern that typically points to fading upside momentum and often precedes a bearish reversal.
The cross continues to trade above both the 50-period and nine-period Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs), underscoring a still-positive short-term tone. Price consolidation just above these EMAs indicates ongoing buying interest on intraday and short-term pullbacks.
The 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) is around 52.89, placing it in neutral territory but with a slight bullish inclination. This suggests that while momentum favors the upside, conditions are not yet overstretched.
Support Levels: Clustered Zone Just Under Spot
On the downside, EUR/JPY is currently positioned slightly above the 50-day EMA at 184.52. Additional nearby support is offered by the lower boundary of the rising wedge around 184.60 and the nine-day EMA at 184.03, creating a tightly grouped support area under current prices.
A clear break below this confluence of support would shift the technical tone, reviving a bearish bias. Such a move could expose the cross to a deeper decline toward the eight-month low of 179.37, which was registered on August 3.
Upside Levels: Wedge Resistance and Historic Highs
On the topside, initial resistance is defined by the upper boundary of the rising wedge, located around 186.10. A sustained move through this level and out of the wedge pattern would indicate a renewed bullish phase.
In that event, the technical outlook would favor another challenge of the region surrounding the all-time high at 187.95, which was reached on April 17.
EUR/JPY Daily Chart Context
EUR/JPY remains technically supported above key moving averages while trading inside a pattern that often precedes trend exhaustion. Traders are likely to focus on the wedge boundaries and the cluster of EMAs around current levels as pivotal references for the next directional move.
