Strong September Momentum in Key European Markets
Registrations of newly purchased Tesla vehicles climbed across several European countries in September, signaling continued improvement in the U.S. electric vehicle maker’s regional performance.
Data published on Thursday by French industry association PFA, Norway’s statistics provider OFV and Mobility Sweden showed that Tesla registrations – used as an indicator of sales – advanced year over year in all three markets.
| Country | Change in Tesla registrations vs. prior year | Data source |
|---|---|---|
| France | +61.9% | PFA |
| Norway | +2.2% | OFV |
| Sweden | +38.4% | Mobility Sweden |
Regional Recovery Outpaces the EV Market
The latest country-level increases add to evidence that Tesla’s European business has been recovering after two years of falling sales in the region.
Figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association showed that registrations of Tesla vehicles across the European Union, Britain and the European Free Trade Association grew 43.3% between January and August. Over the same timeframe, total registrations in the broader battery-electric vehicle segment expanded 38.8%, indicating that Tesla’s rebound has been stronger than the overall market.
Drivers of the Rebound
Tesla’s improvement in Europe has been underpinned by comparatively weaker levels a year earlier, as well as by higher fuel prices, government support measures and increasing consumer interest in electric vehicles.
Upcoming Data from Major Markets
Registration statistics from Britain and Germany, the two largest car markets in Europe, are expected later this week. Those figures are set to offer additional clarity on whether Tesla’s current recovery trend is accelerating across the wider region.
