Supermicro Shares Gain on New Rack Deployments
Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI) saw its stock climb 1.7% on Wednesday after the company said it has started shipping NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 racks. These systems are integrated with Supermicro’s Data Center Building Block Solutions (DCBBS) and its direct liquid cooling technology.
Technical Specifications of NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 Racks
The company said that its DCBBS portfolio now accommodates computing infrastructure for NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 deployments, incorporating a complete liquid-cooling stack that is optimized for this platform.
According to Supermicro, each NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 rack includes 72 NVIDIA Rubin GPUs and 36 NVIDIA Vera CPUs, all housed within a single liquid-cooled rack. The configuration uses 18 compute trays, which together provide 20.7 TB of HBM4 memory and up to 54 TB of LPDDR5X.
| Component | Specification per NVL72 Rack |
|---|---|
| GPUs | 72 NVIDIA Rubin GPUs |
| CPUs | 36 NVIDIA Vera CPUs |
| Compute trays | 18 |
| HBM4 memory | 20.7 TB |
| LPDDR5X memory | Up to 54 TB |
Scalable Unit Design and Integration Services
Supermicro noted that its DCBBS Blueprint sets out a bill-of-materials for deployments ranging from 5 MW to gigawatt scale. Each Scalable Unit within this design supports 1,152 GPUs and 331 TB of HBM4.
The company also highlighted its integration services, which cover site survey, project design, system integration, testing, on-site deployment, and ongoing support.
In-House Liquid Cooling Capabilities
Based in San Jose, Supermicro manufactures its own liquid cooling components. These include cold plates, manifolds, hose kits, rack power shelves, cooling distribution units, and cooling towers.
The company said its in-row cooling distribution units are rated at 1.8MW per CDU and are implemented with N+1 redundancy.
Direct Liquid Cooling for NVIDIA Vera Rubin Platform
The NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform was engineered to operate with direct liquid cooling technology to reach efficiency levels that are not attainable with air cooling alone. Supermicro said it tests and validates every rack with the complete liquid cooling stack before deploying systems to customers.
