Launch Overview
Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) has rolled out its oral therapy Foundayo in the United Kingdom for weight management and type 2 diabetes, according to a company announcement on Monday. The UK is the first country in Europe where this treatment is being made available.
Foundayo, whose chemical name is orforglipron, will be prescribed privately following its authorization by Britain’s medicines regulator on August 10. With this launch, Foundayo becomes the second GLP-1 tablet to enter the UK market, following Novo Nordisk’s (CSE:NOVO-B) Wegovy pill.
Regulatory Path and NHS Access
Before Foundayo can be offered through the National Health Service, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence must complete its assessment of the pill. Eli Lilly said it is collaborating with NICE as the agency evaluates Foundayo for potential weight management access.
In the meantime, patients are able to obtain the drug through private healthcare providers while the NICE review is in progress.
Pricing and Competitive Landscape
Lilly stated that Foundayo will be sold for between £100 and £120 ($136 and $164) per month, positioning it below the company’s injectable weight-loss product Mounjaro, which is priced at £330 for a monthly supply.
By comparison, private providers in the UK currently offer the Wegovy weight-loss pill at prices ranging from £74 to £129 per month for initial lower-dose regimens. Many of these entry-level prices are linked to multi-month subscription arrangements, with costs rising as patients transition to higher doses.
| Product | Company | Form | Price Range (per month) | Notes |

European Union Status
Foundayo is still undergoing regulatory review within the European Union. Novo’s Wegovy pill has already received a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency, although a final decision from the European Commission is still outstanding.
