  • EUR/JPY traded around 185.50 during Asian hours on Tuesday after three consecutive sessions of declines.
  • The cross held above both the nine-day EMA at 185.46 and the 50-day EMA at 185.12, maintaining a constructive short-term outlook.
  • Euro showed its strongest performance against the Japanese Yen in today’s major FX moves.

EUR/JPY Holds Above Key Moving Averages

EUR/JPY inched higher during Asian trading on Tuesday, changing hands near 185.50 after posting losses in the previous three sessions. The pair remained supported above its nine-day and 50-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs), a configuration that points to a mildly positive near-term technical tone.

Momentum indicators provided additional confirmation, with the 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovering around 53. This reading indicated steady, constructive momentum without signaling overbought conditions.

Ascending Triangle Signals Potential Upside

On the daily chart, EUR/JPY continued to trade within an ascending triangle formation, reflecting persistent buying interest. The cross was pressing toward the upper boundary of this pattern, reinforcing the view that bulls remained in control.

From a resistance perspective, the first significant hurdle was identified at the triangle’s upper edge near 186.10. A clear break above this level was expected to confirm a bullish continuation and could open the door toward the all-time high at 187.95, which was reached on April 17.

Support Levels and Risk to the Bullish Setup

On the downside, initial support was seen at the nine-day EMA, located at 185.46. Below that, the 50-day EMA at 185.12 and the lower boundary of the ascending triangle near 185.00 were viewed as additional technical buffers.

A sustained move beneath the lower edge of the triangle would weaken the bullish technical structure and could pave the way for a deeper pullback. In that scenario, the focus could shift toward the March 16 five-month low at 181.87 and the seven-month low at 180.81.
