Key Moments

  • Intel shares rose 4.4% in pre-market trading. The move followed progress on its 18A-P process node.
  • The 18A-P node delivers 9% higher performance at iso-power. It also cuts power use by 18% at iso-performance.
  • Intel’s roadmap progress supports its foundry ambitions. In addition, it keeps Apple-related speculation in focus.

Intel Shares Rise on Foundry Milestone

Intel Corporation stock climbed 4.4% in pre-market trading. The gain followed news from the 2026 VLSI Symposium in Honolulu.

Intel confirmed that its 18A-P process node has entered risk production. The company said the timeline remains on track.

However, broader markets moved lower. Therefore, Intel’s gains were driven mainly by company news.

What Intel Announced at VLSI Symposium

Intel presented its latest foundry roadmap at the 2026 VLSI Symposium. The company focused on its next-generation 18A-P node.

The 18A-P node is the first performance upgrade in the 18A family. It has now entered risk production.

Intel said the node improves efficiency and performance. It also offers better thermal control and design flexibility.

Apple Speculation and Strategic Impact

The update has broader strategic implications. Intel is moving closer to potential external customers for its foundry business.

Analysts say Apple could be a key future client. However, any deal would depend on production readiness.

Chip analyst Ben Bajarin noted that Apple may wait for 18A-P maturity. Therefore, the latest milestone strengthens that narrative.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan expects customer commitments in the second half of 2026. In addition, the company continues to expand its foundry pipeline.

Industry Competition and Demand Trends

The semiconductor industry remains highly competitive. Meanwhile, demand for advanced chips continues to rise.

Samsung has also gained foundry interest from major global firms. These include companies in AI, EV, and cloud infrastructure.

However, supply constraints remain tight at top foundries. Therefore, Intel sees room to win new customers.

Stock Performance and Investor Sentiment

Intel’s stock has rallied strongly over the past year. The 18A-P update adds further support to that trend.

Shares are up more than 200% this year. They also gained 84% in 2025.

The stock traded near $122.20 in pre-market action. Its 52-week low stands at $18.97.

Investors now focus on execution. In particular, they want proof that Intel can scale its foundry roadmap on time.
