According to a person familiar with discussions, at a meeting with Wall Street analysts on January 11th Fiat Chrysler Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne said that the probability for the company to achieve its financial objectives for 2018 was “significantly greater than 50 percent”.

Fiat Chrysler shares closed higher for a ninth consecutive session on Wednesday. The stock went up 2.59% ($0.28) to $11.09, after climbing as high as $11.11, or a level not seen since March 16th 2015 ($11.20). In the week ended on January 8th the shares of the vehicle manufacturer added 14.25% to their market value compared to a week ago, which marked the fifth consecutive period of gains and also the best performance since the week ended on March 6th 2016. The stock has extended its advance to 21.60% so far during the current month, after surging 19.06% in December. The latter has been a third consecutive month of gains and also the best performance since January 2014. For the entire 2016, the shares of the NYSE-listed manufacturer lost 0.55%.

Fiat Chrysler initially set the objectives featured in its five-year plan ending in 2018 three years ago and then revised them up in January 2016. Initially the company projected a revenue of EUR 136 billion ($144 billion) and an adjusted net profit within the range between EUR 4.7 billion and EUR 5.5 billion.

In January 2016 the group revised up its forecast for adjusted operating profit to a range between EUR 8.7 billion and EUR 9.8 billion. In addition, it forecast adjusted operating margins of 6.4% to 7.2%. A number of analysts doubted the companys ability to accomplish both the initially set and the upgraded objectives.

As of 8:29 GMT on Thursday the shares of Fiat Chrysler were gaining 0.29% (EUR 0.030) on the day to trade at EUR 10.500 at the Milan stock exchange.
