Samsung hopes to surprise with its smartwatch teaming with BMW

Despite the fact that Samsung Electronics invested a lot of efforts and money in the advertising of Galaxy Gear smartwatch, the company has not managed to make the grand breakthrough it has been hoping for. Nevertheless, the technological giant based in South Korea, still hopes for gaining success thanks to a new application. The latter provides BMW owners with the opportunity to monitor the vital signs of their cars just by checking their Samsung Galaxy Gear wristwatches.

The new BMW application was introduced by Samsung Electronics at the International Consumer Electronics Show last week. Alongside of other products of the company, such as televisions, cameras, tablets and dishwashers, there was a BMW i3 electric car stationed in one of the corners of Samsungs largest-ever booth in the Las Vegas Convention Centre.

The BMW i3 connected electric car was presented in its own right at this years International Consumer Electronics Show. Of course, the car could also be seen on Samsungs stand, where there was a demonstration about its practical use with the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear smartwatch. The Remote application, which was demonstrated gives the Gear device the opportunity to wirelessly connect to the i3 sedan to deliver information if the windows of the car are down, about the drivable range, and how much electric charge is remaining in the car battery, which is also supplied by Samsung. The application also have a voice command function.

The Gear project is extremely important for Samsung Electronics, because the company needs to catch up some of its competitors in smartphones. On the other hand, the company is currently focused in smartwatches, which are proved to be a promising niche. This emerging category of wearable devices is believed by the industry analysts to be possible to become the next big thing in consumer electronics.

It seems that Samsung Electronics has taken this fact into account, as well as its slowing sales in the high-end handsets industry, which is the reason why the company is doing everything in its strength in order to speed up the adoption of wearable technology. In addition, it is of vital importance to do that before Apple launches its iWatch, which will is expected to become the strongest rival of Samsungs product.

When it comes to high-end smartphones market, high profits were generated by Galaxy S and Galaxy Note product lines of the company. However, Samsung sells more budget phones, which makes its Gear smartwatch not quite appropriate to offer to price-conscious consumers and users in emerging markets. Cooperation with BWM could help Samsung by giving it the opportunity to reach a more luxury gadgets oriented audience.

According to Bloomberg, the current share price of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd is 0.15% up, and its one-year return rate is 12.77% down.
