If you have been participating in the Forex market for a while, you have probably noticed that most brokers offer several types of trading platform. It goes without saying that MetaTrader 4 is offered by almost every broker, but Advanced Trader is quickly gathering pace and becoming increasingly popular. In fact, this platform lacks none of the features of MetaTrader 4, but, as it is newer, it will have a hard time beating its competitors.
Despite this, Advanced Trader offers several interesting features that will be appreciated by most traders. It boasts a flexible and user-friendly interface that is easy to understand and use. Moreover, it comes with various educational videos and tutorials that help investors familiarise themselves with its features and functions. Advanced Trader is constantly being improved by its developers, which is why many experts believe it has a bright future. As the platform is free, it can be used by any broker.
This software has some useful features – FX Insider Data Feed, charting tools, statistics, etc. We strongly recommend giving Advanced Trader a try, especially if you are new to the Forex market. This platform is perfect for both beginners and advanced users because it combines a simplified and fluid interface with sophisticated tools and features.
What is Advanced Trader?
Advanced Trader is proprietary software developed by one of the world’s leading brokers, Swissquote. The Swiss investment bank has two main trading divisions: a Swiss unit for trading stocks, funds, options and futures, and a UK-based unit that offers CFDs (contracts for difference) and Forex. Built with UK traders in mind, Advanced Trader focuses on trading Forex pairs, but it is also suitable for those who want access to stock indices and commodities from around the world.
The platform features a highly customisable interface that allows traders to set up their preferences, add or remove instruments, personalise the charts, etc. After its latest update, Advanced Trader now allows traders to open positions using one of three methods – the trading box, placing an order, or trading directly from the chart. There are many customisable settings and the platform is available in several languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic.
It can be downloaded to desktop computers running Windows, macOS or Linux, but traders can also use the web version of the platform or download the mobile app for iOS or Android. Moreover, the broker offers demo accounts and demo versions of Advanced Trader.
Financial instruments
With Advanced Trader, investors can trade more than 100 financial instruments directly on the interbank market. Compared with other software platforms, this system offers a relatively limited range of around 130 tradable symbols but, after all, its main focus is the foreign exchange market. For those who wish to trade Forex, the platform offers roughly 80 currency pairs, including all the major ones – EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CHF, EUR/JPY and many more.
Traders can choose from various precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium. The platform offers over a dozen tradable symbols in this category. It also provides traders with the option to trade CFDs on roughly 20 commodities – forward contracts on US crude oil, UK crude, natural gas, heating oil, US copper, synthetic on crude oil, and many more.
Additionally, Advanced Trader allows clients to trade the movements of some of the most popular European, American and Japanese stock indices in the form of contracts for difference (CFDs). Most of these index CFDs are available both as forwards (with an expiry date) or as spots/synthetics (no expiry date; overnight rollover/swap interest applies). The range of CFDs includes the Dow Jones (#DJ30MY), S&P 500 (#SP500MY), Forward US Tech 100 (#NAS100MY), DAX as Spot Germany 30, etc.
Analysis and charts
The charting capabilities of Advanced Trader will satisfy most traders, although professionals may find them insufficient for truly advanced trading. The platform comes with 27 built-in indicators – relative strength index (RSI), Heikin-Ashi bar, candlesticks, Stochastic oscillator and moving average convergence divergence (MACD). It also has 17 different overlays, including Parabolic SAR, Ichimoku and Bollinger Bands.
All chart settings, overlays and indicators can be adjusted from the upper toolbar, and multiple indicators can be added. There is also an annotations bar that allows you to set reminder icons, add lines and more indicators, etc. Here, traders can also create alerts. From the lower toolbar for the main chart, they can save the changes they have made to the chart, export the file or print it.
As you can see, traders have great options when it comes to customising the charts and selecting the tools and indicators they feel most comfortable with. By combining different indicators, they can also adapt their trading strategy based on the trends they notice and analyse. Another great feature of Advanced Trader is its integration with live news feeds from Bloomberg and Swissquote.
Advanced features
As suggested by its name, Advanced Trader was originally designed to offer traders a wide range of advanced features. Overall, it manages to keep this promise, although it is not as complex as some other, more sophisticated platforms. Most traders, especially those who are new to Forex and CFD trading, will probably prefer to open positions from the trading box, as this is the simplest method, or to trade directly from the chart because this is the most intuitive way. Experienced traders, however, may prefer the advanced features of the Place Order menu.
Once they open the Order window, they can customise the order by choosing its duration – whether it should be good till cancelled (GTC) or good for the day (GFD, until 23:00 CET). In addition, traders can use contingent orders to protect their profits with Take Profit and Stop Loss options or maximise profits by selecting a Trailing Stop order. Advanced Trader has several unique order types, i.e. Order Cancels Other (OCO, which combines a stop order and a limit order), If Done (a two-legged order) and a combination of If Done and OCO.
Another great feature of Swissquote’s Advanced Trader is automatic pattern detection, which saves time analysing charts. It can detect and then highlight the 17 most common chart patterns. The pattern strength is indicated by the darkness of the highlight shade. This feature is useful for less experienced traders who are still learning to detect different patterns and trends. Of course, advanced traders can also use it to save time.
Mobile trading
One of the best aspects of using Advanced Trader is, of course, its mobile application. It can be downloaded for free from the Swissquote website, the App Store or Google Play. The broker offers equally good versions for Android and iOS, which provide all the features of the desktop platform in a clear and simple interface for mobile devices.
The app is very fast and intuitive, while the mobile design allows instant access to all major sections of the trading platform. It is also fully functional, offering both demo and live accounts, easy sign-up, account management and live quotes. Traders can actively manage their positions, customise the charts and take advantage of the various advanced tools and features available in Advanced Trader.
The mobile version of the platform gives access to Advanced Trader’s full selection of instruments, including nearly 80 currency pairs. There are also built-in tutorials, user guides and other educational tools. Some of the app’s features are freely accessible – live prices, charts and webinars can be opened even without a trading account.
