Key Moments

  • EUR/GBP is trading near 0.8344-0.8345, confined within the prior day’s range as markets await the BoE decision.
  • Investors widely expect the BoE to raise the Bank Rate by 25 basis points to 4%, but any hint of a pause could pressure the Pound.
  • EUR/GBP price action is converging into a small symmetrical triangle, with key resistance around 0.8350 and support near 0.8320.

BoE Decision Keeps EUR/GBP Range-Bound

The Euro is slightly firmer against the British Pound on Thursday, although EUR/GBP continues to trade inside the previous day’s boundaries as market participants wait for the Bank of England’s monetary policy outcome later in the day. The pair is quoted around 0.8344, with recent moves shaping a compact triangle pattern on the charts.

The Pound has stayed supported in recent weeks as traders largely anticipate a 25 basis point increase in the BoE’s Bank Rate to 4% following Thursday’s meeting. However, any signal from policymakers that further tightening may be limited could undercut sentiment toward the Pound and trigger a renewed slide.

By contrast, the Euro has been helped by a sharp drop in Oil prices, though its upside has been constrained by weaker-than-expected German Factory Orders released earlier on Thursday, which has checked the single currency’s rebound.

Technical Overview: Symmetrical Triangle in Focus

EUR/GBP is trading near 0.8345, consolidating after a decline of more than 3% over the last five weeks. Price action is moving toward the apex of a symmetrical triangle, pointing to a period of indecision before a potential breakout.

Momentum indicators show a broadly neutral backdrop. On the four-hour chart, the 14-period Relative Strength Index is hovering just below the 50 level, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains modestly positive, indicating only mild bullish bias.

For buyers, a recovery would require a clear move above the upper boundary of the triangle near 0.8350, followed by a break of resistance at 0.8363, the November 2 high, and then 0.8380, the October 28 high, to validate a more meaningful corrective upswing.

On the downside, initial support aligns with the lower edge of the triangle around 0.8335. More significant backing sits at the October 30 low close to 0.8320. A sustained move below that level would put the late March 2025 lows at 0.8315 in view, ahead of the February 2025 low around 0.8250.
