Market Overview

In Kuala Lumpur, rubber prices ended lower on Wednesday. A dealer said weaker crude oil and mixed regional futures drove the decline.

Singapore rubber futures rose during the session. However, Shanghai futures moved lower. As a result, regional signals were mixed.

Energy Prices and Geopolitical Developments

Crude oil remained the main drag on rubber prices. The dealer said oil fell for a third straight session.

She added that easing US–Iran tensions also weighed on oil. In addition, stronger tanker flows through the Strait of Hormuz reduced supply concerns.

At the time of writing, Brent crude stood at US$75.57 per barrel, down 1.96%.

Regional Futures and Sector Demand

Japanese rubber futures traded in a range. European auto demand helped support sentiment.

However, broader sentiment weakened. Traders worried about further Fed tightening and new US auto regulations.

Macro Headwinds and Regulatory Concerns

US data continues to support expectations of tighter policy. Inflation remains sticky, while labour markets stay strong.

In addition, automakers warned about new vehicle-tracking rules in California. They said delays could disrupt sales and demand.

These factors added pressure to rubber sentiment. The market remains closely tied to automotive activity.

Supportive Data and European Demand

Despite losses, some support limited the downside. Strong US manufacturing and services data helped sentiment.

European auto demand also stayed firm. This helped cushion the fall in prices.
