Facebook Inc (FB) was reported to be planning the release of a $200 wireless Oculus Virtual Reality headset in 2018. Code-named “Pacific”, this new headset will not require a smart phone or a personal computer and will be available at a competitive price compared to untethered VR headsets.

Facebook shares closed higher for a fifth consecutive trading session on Thursday. The stock edged up 0.23% ($0.36) to $159.26, after touching an intraday high at $159.78 and also a fresh all-time high. In the week ended on July 9th the shares of the social media company added 0.30% to their market value compared to a week ago, which marked the third gain in the past four weeks, but yet, it has been the smallest increase since the week ended on May 14th. The stock has extended its advance to 5.48% so far during the current month, following a 0.32% dip in June. The latter has been the first retreat out of six months. For the entire past year, shares of Facebook Inc gained 9.93%.

The present untethered VR headsets such as Samsungs Gear VR need to be used with a smart phone, so that the virtual reality experience is created, while tethered headsets such as the Oculus Rift or Samsung PlayStation VR require either a console or a personal computer.

According to CNN Money, the 40 analysts, offering 12-month forecasts regarding Facebook Inc’s stock price, have a median target of $170.00, with a high estimate of $192.00 and a low estimate of $98.00. The median estimate is a 6.74% surge compared to the closing price of $159.26 on July 13th.

The same media also reported that 36 out of 44 surveyed investment analysts had rated Facebook Inc’s stock as “Buy”, while 4 – as “Hold”. On the other hand, 1 analyst had recommended selling the stock.
