United Parcel shares fall the most in six weeks on Tuesday, more green vehicles to be added by 2025

According to a statement by United Parcel Service Inc (UPS), the company intends to increase the number of vehicles which utilize non-conventional power by the year 2025 in an attempt to reduce its greenhouse emissions. These vehicles may include electric, hybrid electric, hydraulic hybrid, as well as ones running on propane, compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas.

United Parcel shares closed lower for the first time in the past three trading sessions on Tuesday. It has also been the sharpest daily loss since May 17th. The stock went down 1.21% ($1.34) to $109.67, with the intraday high and the intraday low being at $111.44 and $109.67 respectively. In the week ended on June 25th the shares of the package delivery company lost 0.29% of their market value compared to a week ago, which marked the second drop in the past five weeks, but yet, the smallest one since the week ended on May 7th. The stock has pared its advance to 3.49% so far during the current month, following a 1.39% slump in May. The latter has been the fourth drop out of six months, but yet, the smallest one since last December. For the entire past year, United Parcel shares gained 19.13%.

Approximately 25% of the vehicles, which United Parcel purchases per year, are expected to run on alternative fuels or be powered by advanced technology by 2020. In comparison, such vehicles comprised 16% of the companys fleet last year.

At present, UPS has over 8 300 vehicles running on alternative fuel or powered by advanced technology, while its ground fleet consisted of 114 000 vehicles worldwide as of December 31st.

According to CNN Money, the 19 analysts, offering 12-month forecasts regarding United Parcel’s stock price, have a median target of $115.00, with a high estimate of $127.00 and a low estimate of $77.00. The median estimate is a 4.86% surge compared to the closing price of $109.67 on June 27th.

The same media also reported that 18 out of 24 surveyed investment analysts had rated United Parcel’s stock as “Hold”, while 4 – as “Buy”. On the other hand, 1 analyst had recommended selling the stock.
