HP shares gain a third straight session on Wednesday, company’s quarterly revenue increases 3.6%

HP Incs (HPQ) total revenue was reported to have increased 3.6% year-on-year during the first quarter of fiscal year 2017, supported by a 10% growth in revenue from its PC business.

HP shares closed higher for a third consecutive trading session on Wednesday. The stock went up 0.43% ($0.07) to $16.20, after touching an intraday high at $16.24, or a level not seen since February 14th ($16.41). In the week ended on February 19th the shares of the tech giant added 1.46% to their market value compared to a week ago, which marked a fourth consecutive period of gains. The stock has extended its advance to 7.64% so far during the current month, following a 1.42% surge in January. The latter, however, has been the smallest monthly increase since May 2015. For the entire past year, HP shares gained 25.34%.

HPs revenue rose to $12.68 billion during the quarter ended on January 31st from $12.25 billion during the same period a year earlier.

North and South America accounted for 45% of the companys total revenue during the quarter, or an increase by 1% from a year ago.

At the same time, the Asia-Pacific region accounted for 20% of total revenue, up 4% from a year earlier.

Revenue from personal systems went up 10% year-on-year to $8.2 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017, while revenue from HPs printing business shrank 3% year-on-year to $4.5 billion.

On the other hand, HPs net earnings from continuing operations decreased to $611 million during the quarter ended on January 31st from $650 million during the first quarter of fiscal year 2016.

Earnings per share from continuing operations were reported to have remained stable at $0.36 in Q1 of fiscal year 2017.
