According to a Tuesday statement by Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker, the travel ban, which was imposed on seven Muslim-majority countries by the Trump administration a week ago, may eventually be relaxed. This information was provided by New Zealands Fairfax Media.

Al Baker expected that Donald Trumps business talent would come forth when it came to trade relations between the United States and Gulf nations.

“President Trump is trying to protect the interests of his country the same way I am trying to protect the interests of my country and my airline”, Akbar Al Baker was quoted as saying.

“I think we still need to give him some time to see how it is to run a superpower country”, Qatar Airways CEO said in a speech, following the launch of one of the most continuous flights worldwide from Doha to Auckland.

“Im sure he will realize in the long run that the Gulf countries are contributing hugely to the economy of the United States”, Al Baker added, cited by Fairfax.

On January 27th President Trump signed an executive order, which suspended entry in the US of all refugees for a period of 120 days and also barred individuals fleeing from Syria indefinitely. At the same time, travelers from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen will not be permitted to enter the United States for a period of three months.

The decision disrupted flight schedules at worlds major airlines.
