After the release of several updates on the  920 model of the Lumia smartphone phone series, Nokia has finally presented its new flagship device Lumia 1020. It has a 4.5-inch screen and a 1280 x 768 resolution, 2 gigabytes of RAM, and a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset. The only difference from previous version is that RAM memory of this one is doubled.

Putting aside the revolutionary camera, other specifications come very close to the 920 model. The 41-megapixel sensor isnt there to provide some insane bump in image quality, and youre not meant to handle 41-megapixel images, furthermore it would be almost impossible to notice such big difference in quality on the smartphone screen . Instead, its meant to replace the zoom function found in most point-and-shoot cameras which has been an issue in almost every smartphone as zooming adds blurriness to the image.

Analysts who have tested the device said that it was “without doubt” the best smartphone camera on the market. But they added that was not a guarantee that it would be a bestseller as according to market research in 25 countries provided by IDC recently pointed out that “Most people just look at their photos on their smartphone or via a social network on a computer – and for this the other vendors already provide very good quality,” Francisco Jeronimo, a mobile phone analyst at the firm, told the BBC.

If zoom function is not used, the PureView camera will use pixel power to capture the same pixel area multiple times and combine them for best quality as generating a 5-megapixel image with added clarity and detail. First impressions show its a noticeable boost in image quality, and could be applied to video as well.

Windows Phone 8.1 has yet to be released, and it will support the powerful processor that is being used in this model. The quad core capacity could make a big difference for quicker processing of these PureView images. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop confirmed that Nokia will have a another major phone launch later this year.

Companys shares added 1.7% yesterday.
